SMOKE ALARMS AND CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS
• Install smoke alarms. Properly working smoke alarms are key to you and your family's safety.
• Place smoke alarms on every level of your residence, including the basement.
• Install a working carbon monoxide detector in the common areas outside of the bedrooms, and one on each floor. (do not put in the boiler room)
• Test and clean smoke alarms once a month and replace batteries at least once a year. Replace smoke/CO alarms once every 7-10 years.
During construction or painting make sure detectors are protected from dust, dirt, paint, etc., help keep them working, and prevent false alarms. It may be best to have your alarm company service your alarm after work is done or replace the detectors.
